Map of Origin

This is an illustration of Helsinki’s Origin. To create an one to one recreation, I have extracted symbols and colours from the original.

The Original Map was drawn by Hans Hansson in 1645. It is the only existing map that shows Vanhakaupunki and it’s building plots at the mouth of the Vantaanjoki river. Vanhakaupunki means “old town” and is the place where Helsinki was originally founded in 1550. The map is also showing the center of Helsinki’s current position in Vironniemi, to where it was moved in 1640.
